Podcast platform Podimo available in the Netherlands

We have no shortage of podcasts these days, and neither are podcast services. Nevertheless, podcast service Podimo is now setting foot in the Netherlands and offering users two different subscriptions. Are you interested in the service? This is what you want to know about it.

Podimo is a service that offers well-known national and international podcasts and audiobooks for a fixed monthly fee. Part of that money goes to the makers of the audio productions you listen to on the platform. That’s nice to know, because that way you can support those makers. This allows them to continue to create content that you like.

The Danish media company is already active in 21 other countries and therefore has quite a catalog. It mainly contains podcasts from third parties, such as Dutch productions such as man man man and the Self podcast, but Podimo also makes their own material. In addition, there are video podcasts.

How does Podimo work?

You can compare Podimo with all kinds of other streaming services of the moment, such as Netflix and Spotify. For example, you can purchase a subscription that costs at least 4.99 euros per month. This gives you access to exclusive content, which is only available to subscribers.

But there is also free content available. The offer consists of Podimo’s own productions and exclusive podcasts from well-known podcast makers. Those podcasts are ad-free, by the way. The genre on offer also seems quite diverse: from showbiz to crime, upbringing, relationships, self-development, and history.

Podimo also wants to bet on new shows, new material and new formats. Think of foreign narrative podcasts and true crime. In addition, you can expect more shows in this genre from home soon, such as Moordcast by Dionne and Hendrik.

Journalistic productions

These types of productions, like journalistic podcasts, were previously less produced because podcast creators mainly depend on advertisers. But Podimo promises to pay podcast makers based on the listening behavior of listeners. That does not happen with Spotify or Apple Music, for example.

This revenue model is intended to “guarantee continuity” for podcast makers, so that “quality will increase”. Podimo believes that podcasters can put more time into their productions, because they save more money. In this way, makers must also become less dependent on advertisers, which should also have a positive effect.

Podimo certainly seems to be serious when it comes to the Dutch market. For example, the company recently acquired Dag en Nacht Media, a Dutch podcast publisher that will now be producing exclusive material for the platform. In addition, there is a collaboration with Tonny Media, who also brings exclusive content to Podimo.

Subscriptions and availability

The Podimo app can be downloaded from 15 April via podimo.nl and via the app stores. Until May 31, you can opt for a ninety-day trial (after that it’s thirty days), which can be canceled monthly. The app is also available in Belgium (in Dutch).
