The biggest Pokémon GO update ever is here: the second generation of monsters has been added and with these five Pokémon GO Johto tips you can be sure to catch them.
Pokémon GO Johto tips
Earlier this week, Niantic announced that a major update for Pokémon GO was coming: 80 new second-generation monsters (gold and silver) will appear in the game world. In addition, your trainer gets more choices for clothing and menus are made more accessible. Catching the latest Pokémon GO Johto monsters is of course the most important. These five tips come in handy:
1. Evolve old Pokémon into new Pokémon
The 80 new Johto Pokémon will now appear in the wild, but a number of existing Pokémon from the first generation can also be evolved. This way you can evolve Gloom into a Bellossom, but you will need new items for this. In this case, a Sun Stone, which you can find by continuing to visit Pokéstops. A few are just old-fashioned to evolve with Candy to a new one. Golbat for example, which you can change into the new Crowbat with a number of candy.

2. Be aware of server problems
Since the update for Pokémon GO has just been released, the servers may be less stable. For many players, this will be the time to return to the game. For example, it took us longer than usual to load the map and we had to restart the game once to get the radar back on.
3. This is how you evolve the new Eevee evolutions
Eevee has also received two new evolutions with the arrival of the Johto Pokémon. You can get these randomly when you evolve an Eevee, but it is smarter to use a handy Easter egg. By giving Eevee the correct name, you can be sure that you will get the new version. The names are as follows:
- Umbreon: Name your Eevee Tamao
- Espeon: Name your Eevee Sakura

4. These are the new Berries (and this is how you use them)
There was already a Berry in Pokémon GO, but the Johto update turns it into a full fruit basket. For example, via PokéStops you can now find a Berry that gives you extra Candy after catching a Pokémon. A handy tool if you want to evolve a monster. In addition, you can use a new Berry that makes the Pokémon less attacking. This gives you more chances to throw a ball at it. Keep in mind that you can only use one berry at a time.
5. Candy is easier to earn in these ways
Niantic has become less stingy when it comes to Candy. Good news, because this means you don’t have to catch the same monster as often to make it evolve. For example, you can use one of the new Berries to increase the number of Candy. In addition, evolutions that you catch will not yield three but five Candy, while a third evolution will even yield ten Candy. Choosing a Buddy Pokémon will also generate new Candy faster from now on.
