Polestar 2 cheaper thanks to front-wheel drive

The Polestar 2 is now available with a single powertrain, but that 408 horsepower variant is joined by two front-wheel drive versions with less power. Techzle can report this exclusively based on sources. In addition to the well-known 78 kWh battery pack, a smaller package with a capacity of 63 kWh will also be available for one of the two new front-wheel drive versions. Naturally, the arrival of the new versions ensures a significantly lower starting price for the Polestar 2.

Currently, the electric Polestar 2 costs a minimum of € 59,800. For that you get a four-wheel drive electric fastback with a 408 hp and 600 Nm strong powertrain. The Polestar 2 squeezes some 470 electric kilometers from its 78 kWh battery pack. Good news for those who also need a less powerful EV. Techzle can exclusively announce that the electric Polestar 2 will be available in two new versions with front-wheel drive. We even already have indicative prices. Please note, all mentioned technical specifications and prices are still provisional figures, it is possible that the final specifications and prices will differ slightly.

63 kWh and front-wheel drive

The first new front-wheel drive version of the Polestar 2 also has a smaller battery pack than the already well-known 408 hp variant. The new entry-level Polestar 2 has a 63 kWh battery pack that is expected to provide an electric range of about 400 kilometers. The fact that this Polestar 2 is front-wheel drive indicates of course the presence of one instead of two electric motors. This new Polestar 2 with 63 kWh battery has a 224 hp and 330 Nm powerful electric motor on the front axle. On the 0-100 sprint, this version is of course a lot less fast than the 408 hp four-wheel drive variant, which does that job in 4.7 seconds. The 224 horsepower front-wheel drive Polestar 2 turns those numbers around and reaches 100 km / h on the clock in 7.4 seconds. Nothing to be ashamed of either. The provisional tax price of this new entry-level version is, according to our information, € 44,900.

78 kWh and front wheel drive

The second new version of the Polestar 2 has, just like the already well-known 408 hp variant, the 78 kWh battery pack in its bottom. In contrast to the most powerful top version, this new variant is front-wheel drive and therefore has one electric motor. In this new middle flavor of the Polestar 2, that electric motor is 231 hp and 330 Nm strong. The fact that this version has one electric motor instead of two also means that the range of the front-wheel drive Polestar 2 with a 78 kWh battery is considerably greater than that of the 408 hp version. The new variant is expected to squeeze no less than 510 kilometers of range from its battery pack. The provisional tax price of this new middle version is € 48,900.

78 kWh and four-wheel drive

Of course, the Polestar 2 also retains the 408 hp variant with two electric motors and the 78 kWh battery pack. This version, however, loses its richly equipped Intro introduction version and will soon have a provisional tax price of € 52,900. The standard equipment of this non-Intro edition is not yet known, the same applies to the standard equipment of the other new versions.

The Pilot Pack is available on all Polestars 2 for an additional cost of around 4 grand, which adds Pilot Assist, active blind spot detection, adaptive cruise control, Cross Traffic Alert, a 360-degree camera and pixel LED headlamps to the standard equipment. For around € 4,500, the Plus Pack is also available that includes not only a glass roof, but also electrically adjustable front seats with memory function, an extensive audio system from Harman Kardon, an inductive charger, a heated steering wheel, heated windscreen wipers, a heated rear seat and WeaveTech- Adds decoration to the furniture.

Polestar says it is aware that preliminary data about new versions is circulating and says it will release official information in April.
