The Polestar 5 is still quite a while in coming. Nevertheless, Polestar is already showing what we can expect from it globally. As we understood earlier, the Polestar 5 will broadly be the production version of the Precept Concept.
Polestar will significantly expand its offering in the coming years. The Polestar 3, a hefty ‘performance SUV’, will be released next year, the Polestar 4 will be released a year later and the Polestar 5 will be released in 2024. All three newcomers are strongly inspired by the Polestar Precept Concept (photo 4 to 8) from 2020, but the Polestar 5 most of all. That will in fact be the production version of that study model, as is also apparent from the images that Polestar is now serving us.
The design of the Polestar Precept Concept is largely transferred to that of the Polestar 5. We see some differences at the level of detail. For example, the Polestar 5 gets a slightly deeper downward lighting at the front, a slightly different front bumper and the ‘suicide doors’ make way for conventionally opening copies. At the rear, it is particularly striking that Polestar adds an extra LED bar lighting above the minuscule rear window. It probably acts as a third brake light.
Polestar emphasizes that the car we see here is a stepping stone to the final production version, but of course this already looks quite production-ready. It is therefore special that Polestar is showing so much so early before the market launch. As mentioned, it will take more than two years before the Polestar 5 hits the road. The Polestar 5 will be on the SPA2 platform shared with Volvo and will undoubtedly get a top version with a capacity of (more than) 500 hp, which shoots from 0 to 100 km/h in 2 to 3 seconds. More interesting is that Volvo and Polestar already want to have taken a big step towards the 1,000 km range by 2024. So it’s exciting to see how far the Polestar 5 is heading in that direction.
