According to the police, criminals are active who ask you to engage a position on your iPhone – you absolutely should not do this!
Police warns: don’t put this position on your iPhone on
Criminals always come up with new things that should help them to increase the chance of a successful robbery. The police indicate that they are currently regularly asking potential victims to turn on a position on their iPhone. It is of course important not to do this!
An incident where this happened was discussed in the TV program ‘Investigation Requested. ‘ It concerned a criminal who rang the bell with an elderly woman and presented himself as an agent. The fake agent convinces the woman that he has to secure her jewelry and debit card because there is a danger. That is now a well -known scams method. What is new is that the criminal calls on a function on the woman’s iPhone before he leaves.
Airplane
That function is the aircraft position. When you enable this function, all mobile connections are switched off. During a flight in an airplane, this is desirable because there are no more mobile signals that can disrupt the communication of the pilots. The function is also useful if you want to charge your iPhone faster.
As long as the aircraft position is switched on, you cannot be called and you cannot call yourself. That is precisely the reason that scammer does this. After all, nobody can warn you and, moreover, you cannot call the police or your bank with your iPhone to check whether it is all reliable what you should do of that (fake) agent.
Disable aircraft
The police therefore warn that you should not switch on the aircraft stand on your iPhone if someone asks you for that. Is someone too fast and has he already switched on the aircraft position before you really have it? Then you switch off the function as follows:
- Open the control panel;
- You do this by wiping down from the top right on your screen;
- Tap at the top left of the icon by plane.
If for whatever reason you don’t see an airplane in the control panel, there is another way:
- Open the app settings;
- Switch off the ‘Airplane mode’ option.
That way you can at least be called again and you can also call someone yourself to ask for advice!
