Pope Francis receives electric Volkswagens

Volkswagen has acquired a special customer. The Vatican will receive numerous electric Volkswagens in the coming years. The Pope was there when the first arrived.

The Vatican also wants to keep up with the times and so it is investing money in renewing its fleet of vehicles. The entire bus must become electric and Volkswagen has the honor of making that happen. The entire fleet must be CO2 neutral by 2030. In the coming years, a total of just under forty electric Volkswagens will go to the Roman Catholic city-state.

None other than Pope Francis himself was there to receive the first two cars. These are two Volkswagen ID3s, with copies of the ID4 and ID5 to follow later. The question remains whether the Pope himself will actually switch to an electric Volkswagen for his official visits. He is now mainly seen in an open Mercedes-Benz G-class. However, the Pope is known as someone with a preference for simple transport. At least at the beginning of his papacy, he is said to have driven around Vatican City in a Ford Focus and even a classic Renault 4. Nowadays he seems to mainly be driven around in a Fiat 500L.
