Porsche 911 GT3: unveiling near!

In the market for a new 911, but do you find the existing 911 derivatives too few? No worries. Starting next week, the fierce Porsche 911 GT3 will join the ranks.

In keeping with tradition, the delivery range of the current Porsche 911 generation has also been considerably expanded. The current 911 family consisting of the regular Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera S, Turbo and Turbo S will be expanded next week with the mighty new 911 GT3.

Porsche reports that it will be presenting the new 911 GT3 to the world public on February 16, releasing a dark teaser record. It is still unclear which machine in the latest 911 GT3 is responsible for the undoubtedly impressive performance. The previous 911 GT3 unveiled in 2013 received a 482 hp 3.8 six-cylinder boxer engine, which was based on that of the then current 911 Carrera S. The GT3 of the ‘991.2’ generation, the facelift, presented in 2017, changed its 3.8. for a 4.0-liter six-cylinder. That block was a derivative of the engine that Porsche had in the 911 GT3R and 911 Cup flavors. That 500 hp and 460 Nm strong machine will undoubtedly not be replaced by a power source that generates less power. The new 911 GT3 Cup got 510 hp and 470 Nm strong naturally aspirated 4.0. The 911 GT3 therefore gets at least that power, a mountain of horsepower with which it approaches the 520 hp of the previous 911 GT3 RS.

In theory, it is possible that for the new 911 GT3, Porsche is going the same way as with the previous model, which would mean getting a modified Carrera S engine. That would mean that there is a twin turbo 3.0 in the back, instead of a turbo-free 4.0. That is not very obvious. Whatever machine the 911 GT3 gets, it will always be heavily sprayed. We’ll know more next week.
