Porsche hints the new 911 Targa

Porsche announces that it will release a new version of the 911 on May 18. Initially, the Germans are still mysterious about what is to come, but a teaser reveals which variant of the sports car will show up: the Targa.

In a short video to announce the world premiere, the latest 911 Targa appears several times. The car appears in short shadowy images, such as during a thunderstorm and in cartoon sketches. The unique roof construction of the Targa (‘plate’ in Italian) is not subtly hidden here, but is clearly visible. This shows Porsche without actually saying which new 911 it is about next Monday.

In the video, Frank-Steffen Walliser, Vice President Model Lines 911 & 718, explains that the new 911 Targa would actually be presented at the Beijing Auto Show. However, the corona crisis threw a spanner in the works there. The public debut at the Tennis Grand Prix is also canceled, because that event has ended. As a result, the world premiere is now taking place online place. Walliser will pull the canvas off the car. He does this together with, among others, Porsche brand ambassador Maria Sharapova.

The previous 911 Targa was only available as a 4, 4S and 4 GTS, so it is likely that the new Targa will be presented in four-wheel drive form. If we look at the regular 911 in terms of power, it is plausible that in the Targa 4 a 3.0-liter six-cylinder boxer produces 385 hp. The 911 Targa 4S, if it follows the same line, then gets 450 hp at its disposal. There is also probably an even more powerful Targa 4 GTS in the barrel.
