The Porsche Taycan is now really more popular than the old 911. This is apparent from new sales figures that Porsche makes public on Friday.
At the beginning of this year, it looked like it was only a matter of time before Porsche would sell more Taycans than 911s. In the first quarter there was still a difference of 61 cars worldwide. In the second quarter, the difference in this year’s total sales had grown to 789 units. Now the Taycan has overtaken the 911: the counter now stands at 28,640 Taycans sold worldwide in 2021, compared to 27,972 copies of the 911.
It is not necessarily the case that the Taycan in-house gives the 911 major blows, Porsche CEO Oliver Blume stated at the beginning of this year that the Taycan mainly attracts new customers. The 911, the car to which Porsche largely owes its right to exist, drops to fourth place in the list of best-selling Porsches of this year due to the popularity of the Taycan. The Cayenne is by far the most popular this year: 62,451 units have been sold until September. The Macan follows closely behind with 61,944 copies. Then come the Taycan and the 911. The Panamera is currently good for 20,275 units and the 718 Cayman and 718 Boxster come to a total of 15,916 cars sold.
