Possibly new entry model MacBook

Ming-Chi Kuo states that Apple will soon launch a cheaper MacBook, which will be available in different colors, comparable to the basic model of the iPad.

The MacBook range currently consists of the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, where the Air is now the cheapest option. Apple may want to add a third Mac that will serve as an entry -level model and may be given the name ‘MacBook’.

Earlier there were rumors that Apple would develop an affordable MacBook for education, as an alternative to Chromebooks. This new model seems to be responding to this.

iPhone chip for MacBook

To reduce the costs, Apple would opt for an iPhone chip, which is perhaps cheaper than the M-series that Apple now uses for the MAC line. According to Kuo, Apple might opt for the A18 Pro chip that is currently being used for the iPhone 16 Pro (Max).

It would be for the first time that Apple has a MacBook equipment with a chip that is normally used in the iPhone. KUO reports that the MacBook will be provided with a 13-inch display, which is not yet clear. Apple will probably use the same screen as at the time for the MacBook Air with M1 chip. This is a 13.3-inch (diagonal) display with LED background lighting and IPS technology, resolution of 2560 x 1600 at 227 pixels per inch with support for millions of colors and a brightness of 400 Nits.

In terms of appearance, the new MacBook is expected to be available in silver, blue, pink and yellow-the same colors as the current entry-level IPad. Whether these are the final colors is not yet confirmed.

Price and availability

It is not yet clear what the new MacBook with iPhone chip will cost. Currently, the MacBook Air with M4 chip is the cheapest model and costs € 1199. However, it is expected that the new entry-level model will be considerably cheaper. For comparison: the price difference between the iPad and the iPad Air is € 310.

It is expected that the mass production of this new MacBook will start in the fourth quarter of 2025 or the first quarter of 2026. The new Mac is then expected in the spring of 2026.
