How economical is petrol-A with 122 hp?
The Mercedes-Benz A-class never really lived up to its name after a debacle with an overgrown mammal. Until 2012, when the brand launched the new generation. Suddenly it looked dynamic and instantly appealed to a much younger target group. Or can he also control himself a little, resulting in favorable consumption?
We cannot answer this question with this article. Gasoline drivers who enter their fuel receipts in the AutoWeek Consumption Monitor drive, with one exception, A180. One driver left it open and opted for the A200. In both cases it is a 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbo engine. In the A180 it produces 122 hp, the A200 driver has a little more to offer with 156 hp.
How economical is the A-class?
On average, ‘our’ A-drivers consume 1 in 15 (6.7 l/100 km) and the spread is striking. One either drives better than 1 in 16.2 (6.2 l/100 km), or consumes more than 1 in 13.5 (7.4 l/100 km). In the area in between we see remarkably few values. So on to the extremes!
The most economical A180 driver does quite well with 1 in 16.6 (6 l/100 km). The great thing is that this is certainly not a snapshot, the measurement took almost four years and just under 90,000 kilometers.
The measurement of our most uneconomical driver took even longer, namely almost five years. The distance traveled is considerably shorter at 35,300 kilometers. The combination results in an average of 1 in 13.2 (7.6 l/100 km).
With an average consumption of 1 in 15, the A-class does not have to be ashamed, it also shows that it can easily be improved. Its direct competitor, the BMW 1-series, appears to be less economical in practice.
