Practical consumption: the Seat Leon (2013-2020) is so economical

The Seat Leon has the name that they fly around you on the highway. It is a popular lease car with a somewhat sportier approach, which means that ‘dynamic’ drivers may indeed feel attracted. In this article, however, there is no room for gut feelings, we look at the consumption figures. Is the Leon, despite its image, still a little frugal?

To find out, we look at values in the AutoWeek Consumption Monitor, where users enter their fuel receipts themselves. We find no fewer than 95 Seat Leons from the previous generation! 25 of them have a 1.4 TSI, 1.4 TSI, EcoTSI or TSI ACT on board. They are different variants of the same engine, with powers between 120 and 150 hp. ACT stands for Active Cylinder Shutdown, which allows the four-cylinder to run on two cylinders under low load. In addition, the 1.0 TSI and 1.6 TDI often appear in the Consumption Monitor, so that we can paint a good picture.

Consumption Leon 1.4 TSI

Despite the larger capacities and special techniques: in the AutoWeek Consumption Monitor all values, sorted from high to low consumption, are mixed up. However, the most economical 1.4 TSI is the weakest engine variant. The driver of this Leon 1.4 TSI 122 PK Style has managed to drive around for more than 20,000 kilometers with a consumption of 1 to 20.4 (4.9 l/100 km). The least economical value, 1 in 13.1 (7.6 l/100 km), records a 1.4 TSI with 140 hp and cylinder deactivation. On average, all 1.4 TSIs record 1 in 15.8 (6.4 l/100 km).

Consumption 1.0 and 1.2 TSI

Eight of the Leon drivers have a four-cylinder 1.2 TSI under the hood. On average, they consume 1 to 15.8 (6.4 l/100 km) with the entry-level four-cylinder. The lowest value, 1 in 18.4 (5.4 l/100 km), is due to a 1.2 TSI Style with 105 hp. With the same engine, 1 to 13.8 (7.2 l/100 km) is also possible, as the driver of this Leon 1.2 TSI proves.

The values look much more favorable with the 1.0 TSI. Not only the average consumption of the fourteen drivers is 1 in 18.4 (5.5 l/100 km) lower than with the 1.2 TSI, the outliers also show a more favorable picture. The most economical Leon with this power source drove more than 200,000 kilometers with an almost unbelievable consumption of 1 in 24 (4.2 l/100 km), a total of three drivers drive more economically than 1 in 20. If you don’t do your best, 1 in 14.8 (6.8 l/100 km) over a distance of almost 75,000 kilometers is also possible, testifies to the least economical driver.

Consumption Seat Leon diesel

Quite economical, that Leon 1.0 TSI. But it can be more economical, because the 25 drivers of a Leon 1.6 TDI record an average of 1 in 20.1 (4.99 l / 100 km). Where we regard the limit of 1 in 20 as ‘magical’ with petrol engines, a diesel must do better. One driver breaks the 1 in 25 limit (1 in 25.1 / 3.99 l / 100 km) and has been doing so for over 170,000 kilometers. Nobody scores worse than 1 in 18 (5.6 l/100 km).

Finally, the 2.0 TDI, of which seven drivers have tracked their consumption. This large engine is considerably less economical with an average of 1 to 17.1 (5.9 l/100 km). Still, the most economical 2.0 TDI driver does not do badly with 1 in 20.2 (4.96 l/100 km). Finally, the least economical Leon 2.0 TDI allows 1 to 15.9 (6.3 l/100 km) to be written down.

The Seat Leon shows favorable consumption values on average. Those who prefer maximum economy are best off with the 1.0 TSI petrol engine or 1.6 TDI diesel. The Seat Leon shows better consumption value across the board than the Ford Focus and Alfa Giulietta. The hybrid Lexus CT 200h does slightly better than the 1.0 TSI.
