Preparation app from now on also on iPhone and iPad: PDF files and edit images

With iOS 26 and iPados 26, Apple finally brings the well-known preview app (preview) from the Mac to the iPhone and iPad. This means that users get a powerful, built-in solution for viewing, editing and managing PDF files and images.

Just like on a Mac, you can use preview to edit images (limited) and manage PDF files. By default, iOS and iPados will open these types of files in the preview app so that you can get started right away.

Minimalist design

The preview app for iPhone and iPad is designed with a minimalist design that fits seamlessly within the Liquid Glass design of the operating system. From the home screen you can consult recently opened files, view shared folders or browse through all your files.

With preview you can mainly open PDF files, but also edit images. For example, you can open sizes such as JPG, PNG, TIFF, EPUB and HTML.

After opening a file, the toolbar becomes active and you can immediately apply markings (pencil symbol) or make a cut. With the Info button you can view the exif information of an image or document.

The toolbar dynamically adapts to the type opened. It is therefore possible that you will see another toolbar in certain situations. On the iPad it is also possible to adjust this toolbar to your preference and to add shortcuts for commonly used actions.

Adjust format, mirror and more

After you have opened a document in the preview app, it is possible to change the size, format and display. This way you can easily mirror or rotate an image. In some cases you can even remove the background. To do this, tap the three dots to open more options and choose the desired part.
