Earlier this week, BMW reported, among other things, the arrival of a new base engine to the 1-series. Techzle can announce the prices of that 116i before BMW itself has publicized it. The same applies to the new 120i, Techzle can also report what it should cost.
The engine range of the new 1 Series introduced last year included only two petrol engines until recently. This includes a completely new entry-level model. BMW parks the 116i under the existing 140 hp 118i. The new 116i has a 109 hp and 190 Nm strong three-cylinder under the hood, a machine that is available with both a manual six-speed gearbox and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
116i
The 109 hp 116i with manual gearbox has a starting price of € 31,362.50, making it the cheapest 1-series at the moment. The 116i with automatic transmission has a starting price of € 33,852. The 116i with automatic transmission sprints to a speed of 100 km / h in 10.6 seconds and consumes – depending on the chosen version – an average of 5.8-6.6 l / 100 km. The manual variant is just as fast on paper and with an average consumption of 5.7-6.5 l / 100 km, it is slightly more economical. The price difference between the new 116i’s and the 118i with manual and automatic transmission is € 1,691 and € 1,319 respectively.
120i
The gap between the 140 hp 118i and the 306 hp M135i will soon be filled by the recently announced 123Ti, a 265 hp front-wheel drive variant that heralds the return of the Ti label at BMW. A step below that, BMW is already putting the brand new 120i, a 1-series with a 178 hp and 280 Nm strong four-cylinder as power source. That petrol engine is always linked to the well-known seven-speed automatic transmission with double clutch. Acceleration from a standstill to a speed of 100 km / h takes seven seconds. Average consumption is 6.0-6.7 liters, 100 km. The starting price of the 120i is € 38,283.50. Do you want paddle shifters behind the wheel? Then you will have lost € 38,913.91.
