A recent update of WhatsApp is causing problems with the storage of their iPhone for some users. The chat service is investigating the problem, but fortunately you can already do something about it.
Troubleshoot WhatsApp
If WhatsApp gets stuck on the ‘Optimize WhatsApp’ screen or you suddenly run out of space to receive new messages, you probably have the bug in the latest version of the chat app. WhatsApp says it will quickly roll out a solution to the problem, but you probably don’t feel like waiting for that. In that case, follow the steps below.
- Open WhatsApp on your iPhone and tap ‘Settings’ at the bottom right;
- Select ‘Chats and conversations’ and then press ‘Backup’;
- WhatsApp’s backup function appears. If desired, press the switch behind ‘Include videos’ and then ‘Back up now’ to complete the process;
- Go back to your home screen and delete WhatsApp by briefly pressing the app icon and tapping the cross;
- Then open the App Store, download WhatsApp again, enter your phone number and restore the backup you just made.
