When you place your finger on a speech bubble on your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch, you can send a short response in the form of a tapback. You can also do this under macOS, in two different ways.

  1. Open the conversation in the messaging app
  2. Click on the message and hold the click
  3. Wait a few moments
  4. The tapback menu opens
  5. Choose a desired symbol to link it
  6. Tap the emoji icon to choose a different emoticon

Do you want to link a sticker via your Mac? Then click with a secondary click (right mouse button) on the message and choose ‘Add sticker’.

Do you have a Mac with Touch Bar? Then briefly click on the message to which you want to link a tapback. The tapbacks will immediately appear in the Touch Bar. Tap one to link it directly to the selected message. This works slightly faster than the above methods.
