Rabobank introduces Google Pay as a new payment option

As of today, Rabobank customers can pay with Google Pay via their Android phone or smartwatch. With this new payment service, customers can pay with contactless in physical stores and web stores via their Android phone or smartwatch.

Rabobank and Google Pay

Last week, Androidworld discovered in the meta description of the Rabobank website that Rabobank would be the next bank to enable payments with Google Pay. A spokesperson for Rabobank was able to confirm this to Androidworld and now the bank has officially announced the news. Google pay can be activated via the bank’s mobile banking app.

With this new payment option, Rabobank makes it possible to pay easily, securely and quickly contactless with an Android device. We are pleased to expand our range of contactless payment solutions with Google Pay. This allows customers to choose the payment solution that suits them best.

Rabo Wallet disappears

Rabobank customers with an Android phone can currently pay contactless via the Rabo Wallet. That service will disappear on August 1. Until then, existing customers can use the Rabo Wallet. After that, they can switch to Google Pay or still use the debit card. Payment via the smartwatch with Garmin Pay and Fitbit Pay is also possible at Rabobank.

Many functions of the Rabo Wallet, such as payment request and parking, are already available in the Rabobank app. Loyalty cards and Refueling are not available in the Rabobank app. Mobile parking via the Rabobank app is new. Thanks to this option, Rabobank customers no longer need any cash, debit card or separate parking app to pay for a parking space. Also new is Carbon Insights in the mobile banking app. This allows customers to see how much CO2 emissions each euro spent causes.

Google Pay was announced in the Netherlands in 2020 and the service is already supported by banks such as ABN AMRO, Bunq and Revolut. Will you be using Google Pay for contactless payments? Let us know in the comments.
