Interesting for Europe
Ram is also going for the electric pick-up, with the recently partly unveiled Ram 1500 EV. That electric counterpart to the 1500 will probably be joined by a smaller brother. A pick-up that is even more interesting for the European market in terms of size.
American pick-ups are also rapidly switching to electric drive. At Ram, the 1500 EV is the first, which is a direct competitor for pickups such as the Ford F-150 Lightning and the Chevrolet Silverado EV. The most popular pick-up format is therefore already electrically treated at the big three American manufacturers, but there are plans to also go a little smaller electrically. For example, Ford seems to be working on a little brother of the F-150 Lightning and now it also looks like Ram is coming up with a more compact electric pick-up.
Some American Ram dealers declare to Autonews that they were recently allowed to take a look at the concept car that looks ahead to that smaller electric pick-up. One says the study reminds him of the Ram 1500 Revolution Concept pictured above. Although that was a precursor to the Ram 1500 EV, the production version turned out to be more traditionally lined. Possibly the smaller Ram – just like the 1500 Revolution Concept – will be a bit more extravagant. Another dealer says it will be a “stylish alternative” for “someone who doesn’t need a big pickup.”
Why this attention for a mostly very American party for the time being? Well, Ram may be coming to Europe and a smaller electric pickup seems to fit the bill perfectly. We will probably see the concept version this year.
