RDW renews registration certificate

Since 2014, the registration certificate of a car in the Netherlands is not a piece of paper, but a pass. This will remain the case, but around the tenth anniversary of the ‘credit card’, the Dutch registration certificate will change again.

Don’t worry: the changes are not major. The RDW has a contract with a new manufacturer and is seizing this opportunity to, among other things, adjust the safety features. There is now also a contact chip in the registration certificate. The RDW reports that from now on, only the property categories that apply and are relevant to the vehicle in question can be found on the back of the registration certificate. For example, in a passenger car the number of seats is deleted. For commercial vehicles, weights and towing data are stated on the card, so that it is no longer necessary to issue a separate certificate of conformity. This separate form will therefore be deleted for these vehicles.

The new registration certificate will be issued from mid-June, existing ‘old’ registration passes will of course remain valid. A detailed explanation of the changes can be found here.
