Remarkable: there will be no more new Macs in 2022

We were counting on new MacBook Pro models in November. A new Mac mini might also appear, as well as a Mac Pro with Apple Silicon processor. But none of that: There won’t be a new Mac in 2022 at all.

MacBook Pro with M2 Pro only in 2023

This is reported by the very knowledgable Apple insider Mark Gurman of Bloomberg. According to its sources, Apple aims to introduce the new MacBook Pro models (with M2 chip) in the first quarter of 2023. They were previously thought to be announced in November.

Apple rarely launches new products in January or February, so it’s likely that the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro will see the light of day at the earliest in March 2023. During that time, Apple is also expected to release iOS 16.3, iPadOS 16.3, and macOS Ventura 13.3.

MacBook Pro

Apple previously hoped to release the new MacBook Pros this fall, but those plans have finally been shelved. The current generation of MacBook Pro models dates from October 2021. It was a giga upgrade, with a new design, improved mini-LED screen, more powerful chips and more.

It’s unclear why the release of the Macs has been delayed. Gurman reports that the new MacBook Pros will continue to look like the current models. The main difference seems to be the processor, with the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips giving way to the first M2 Pro and M2 Max processors. The M2 Max goes from 10 to 12 CPU cores and the best GPU has 38 instead of 32 cores.

Mac mini and Mac Pro

Apple is also working on a new Mac mini. The company seems to have plans for a new entry-level version (with M2 chip) as well as a high-end version, which you can configure with an M2 Pro or M2 Max processor. Gurman does not mention a possible release date, but a release in the spring of 2023 seems likely.

The first Mac Pro with an Apple Silicon processor will also have to wait a little longer. Apple insider Gurman expects this Mac to have options for a CPU with 24 or 48 cores and 76 and 152 (!) graphics cores. It can also be equipped with up to 256 GB of memory.
