From a Panda convertible to the Passat van Holleeder

Online auction platform Catawiki sees a growing interest in remarkable youngtimers. The number of youngtimers auctioned increased considerably this year and there were several special cars among them.
When you think of online car auctions, you may mainly think of special classics that fetch tons or even millions of euros, but it increasingly concerns (more modest) cars that are not necessarily very old. Catawiki certainly notices that. This saw the number of youngtimers (cars at least 15 years old) auctioned increase by 20 percent this year up to and including September compared to that period last year.
There are of course usual suspects such as a Ferrari F430 Spider from 2007, but also young classics that you would less likely expect. For example, one was purchased for €8,550 open Fiat Panda from 1992 – a self-build project – auctioned, but also a armored Volkswagen Passat W8 from none other than criminal Willem Holleeder. This raised €18,000.

Speaking of Volkswagen and Fiat, those brands are clearly in demand and not just with remarkable examples. Catawiki sees a rapidly growing auction market for fast Volkswagen Golfs in particular. In addition to GTIs, this also concerns G60s and R32s, as Catawiki’s AutoWeek understands. At Fiat, the Panda, Spider and of course the 500 are doing well.
