Renault will introduce the Air4 to the world later this month, a show car that already promises to be a nice stubborn thing. The brand already shows the first snatches of a study model that is brought to great heights with a little help from outside.
The Renault 4 is 60 years old this year and the world will know. In October, Renault presented the Suite N°4, co-developed with industrial designer Mathieu Lehanneur, a uniquely modified R4 that appears to serve as a warm-up for the next specially adapted and modernized newcomer in R4 country. On November 26, Renault pulls the curtain on the Air4, a hotter starter that is served at a great height.
The Air4 is a show car that was created in collaboration with the American car/motorcycle/lifestyle site TheArsenale. In a teaser video we get to see the first shadows of what is probably – just like the Suite N°4 – a strikingly finished Renault 4. TheArsenal describes the Air4 as “the first flying car” that “[…] brings the Renault 4 into the future on its sixtieth birthday.” Although we see an R4 muzzle interspersed with modern LED lighting, it does not seem to be a very concrete preview of a reborn R4 for the time being. R4 that should be able to fly on paper thanks to a drone-like addition.
But do not be sad. The electric reincarnation of the Renault 5 scheduled for 2024 and preceded by the 5 Prototype isn’t the only new retro Renault you can set your sights on in a few years’ time. Renault is also coming with the ‘4ever’, an electric newcomer inspired by the R4 that AutoWeek could already show you an interesting series of patent plates. In addition, Renault comes with an order version of the 4ever, a new ‘Fourgonnette’! More later this month.
