Renault will launch new Arkana-like SUV in 2024

Renault is now also working with the Chinese Geely and wants to invest heavily in South Korea. Now the brand shows the proportions of its first product as a result of the collaboration. The SUV with a sloping roofline will be launched in South Korea in 2024, although the joint venture also wants to produce cars for other countries.

Initially, the partnership will build D-segment-sized cars based on ‘the latest’ Volvo technology, Renault Korea Motors (RKM) said. The South Korean branch of the French brand is not yet talking about fully electric cars, it is emphatically about hybrids. It is therefore likely that its first products will be placed on Volvo’s CMA platform, on which, for example, Volvo builds the XC40 and Lynk & Co the 01. The SEA platform, which Geely is developing, will be for pure electric cars and will therefore (still ) are not used by RKM.

Renault Arkanas

The car that the brand is now teasing shows a piece of an all-new design, which will share elements with cars to be introduced later. In this case, it is an SUV with a size more than, for example, the Renault Arkana. That car is also only available with hybrid powertrains. The Renault Arkana is also rolling off the production line in South Korea, where RKM’s new product will be built. The development and design also take place in that country, with the focus on the common infrastructure there for, for example, charging and connectivity.

Nevertheless, Renault Korea Motors also has ambitions to market their products in other parts of the world, for which the brand is therefore starting with hybrid models of D-segment format. The teaser of this SUV is the ‘symbolic starting point’ for that ambition, for which the brand is initially investing €900 million. It is not yet clear whether that means that we can expect other Renaults from South Korea in Europe in addition to the Renault Arkana.
