‘Renewed Tesla Model 3 coming’

The Tesla Model 3 has only been for sale in the Netherlands since 2019, but the model has been around since 2016. Tesla is said to be working on a refreshed version of its electric sedan. The renewed Tesla Model 3 should, among other things, reduce production costs.

Although not everything that Elon Musk touches turns into gold immediately, the success of his car brand Tesla is undeniable. The Model 3 and Model Y have made the formerly popular Tesla Model S almost completely obsolete, and it doesn’t look like Tesla needs to worry about the appeal of its successes for now. Still, Tesla cannot sit back and relax. After all, more and more and better electric models from other car manufacturers are being added, with the result that things such as a large range suitable for daily use, high charging speeds and efficient electric motors that used to be major sales arguments are playing a smaller role. To keep consumers’ eyes on the Model 3, Tesla is working on an updated version of its electric sales hit.

Tesla Model 3 on the Autobahn

The Tesla Model 3 was introduced to the world public in 2016 and is now six years old. There are car models that are already renewed after a shorter lifespan, but it is no surprise that Tesla wants to further extend the lifespan of the Model 3. After all, the Tesla Model S was presented more than 10 years ago and – although in a technically thoroughly developed form – is still for sale. Reuters reports based on four anonymous sources that the updated Model 3 that Tesla is working on must, among other things, be cheaper to produce than the current model. By reducing the number of components that make up the naturally minimalist interior of the Model 3, production costs can be reduced.

The renewed Tesla Model 3 – which will probably only be modified in detail on the outside – should go into production in China in the third quarter of 2023, according to Reuters. The updated Model 3 will also run off the line in California, but when exactly is not known.

Model S example

In 2021, the Tesla Model S was really tackled for the first time since the 2016 facelift. The Model S received a new front, a sharpened rear bumper and all chrome was removed from the car. The Tesla Model S also received a completely updated interior, complete with a new horizontally oriented infotainment screen that replaced the vertical version. The big brother of the Model 3 received, among other things, a new one and cut open at the top yokesteering wheel, but it didn’t stop there. The furniture in the back of the Model S was also overhauled and Tesla not only introduced completely new hardware and software for the infotainment system, but also a display for the rear occupants. We expect the facelift that Tesla is making on the Model 3 to be similar to that of the Model S in terms of changes.

In the Netherlands, the Model 3 is by far the most popular Tesla car. To date, 41,400 copies have been delivered. No fewer than 30,000 of these found a Dutch home in 2019.
