Renntech S76R

With its S76R, Renntech presents Notre Dame among the cathedrals. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the German Mercedes tuner’s abuse of V12s with engine code M120, the company is now introducing the superlative of that concept. The result is a sinister business sedan with 615 hp and more than 950 Nm of torque – and that without turbos!

Where Mercedes-Benz itself never got further than an engine capacity of 7.3 liters for its 90s V12, Renntech has been able to go the extra mile for 30 years now. To celebrate, the tuner proves it once again: for the first time, the Germans are turning a shovel into a shovel and drilling the block, known from the Pagani Zonda, among others, to no less than 7.6 liters.

In combination with an extensively revised W140 S-class, this leads to the S76R: a W140 S-class (nickname ‘Cathedral’) with 615 hp and 953 Nm of torque. This can rightly be called Notre-Dame among the Cathedrals. Only Mercedes’ CLK GTR Le Mans racer managed to extract 643 hp more power from an M120 V12 derivative. At least under the Mercedes flag, because for Pagani, AMG later got more than 700 hp from the same engine block.

The torque of the S76R reaches the rear wheels via a five-speed transmission instead of the original four-speed and a limited-slip differential. The power source was also fitted with a lot of more modern parts to make good use of the gigantic engine capacity. However, Renntech’s work does not end there.

If you take a look through the double-glazed side windows of the top limousine, you will find a completely revised interior. A four-seater configuration, a few square meters of leather and Alcantara and some bits of carbon fiber should take the whole thing to a higher level, although in our opinion that worked better on the outside than on the inside. Sportier bumpers and side skirts, in combination with a lowered body, provide a more decisive stance. Pièce de résistance are the forged 19-inch wheels. Renntech actually managed to give something sporty to the Mercedes-typical manhole covers, although that is also due to the ceramic brakes with a diameter of more than 40 centimeters (on the front axle), which fit just behind.

Although there is a 1 or 1-badge adorns the dashboard of the S76R, Renntech indicates that it will build an extra copy for you if desired. The tuner does not say a word about the price of the thing, as well as about the performance. We are betting on quite impressive numbers for both.
