Review iPad Air 2025

Ten months is very short before another version of the iPad Air. Yet on March 4, Apple already unveiled the successor to the iPad Air 2024: the iPad Air 2025. It may also be logical that this is not a huge upgrade compared to the predecessor. At first glance you may not even see any differences between the two versions, but there are of course there.

To be honest, there are more similarities than differences. Both versions are available in two sizes (11 inches and 13 inches), with the same dimensions and the same screens. The same amount of storage space and memory, the same cameras and even the same battery. That camera and battery are fine, there are no improvements. But let’s focus on the differences. We list them for you.

An M3 chip

We start with the biggest and to be honest the only real difference between the 2024 and 2025 version, and that is the new M3 chip. The predecessor is still running on an M2 chip. The M3 chip is of course faster and more powerful, but the chance that you will notice something of it during daily use is small. The M2 chip is also a fast and powerful processor. Spacious enough for home-garden-and-kitchen use. Everyone who really needs a faster processor probably opts for an iPad Pro that contains an M4 chip. That is why the upgrade from the iPad Air to an M3 is at least remarkable.

The new chip also ensures better graphics, because he supports Ray Tracing with hardware acceleration. In practice, this means that this mainly looks more realistic in games. However, it is not a really shocking improvement. We also think it is a shame that Apple has opted for the M3 chip, while the M4 chip has already been released. So the iPad Air is not completely up-to-date.

A newly designed Magic Keyboard

Apple has renewed the Magic keyboard for the iPad Air with a larger trackpad and a row of function keys. Just like the previous models, you can easily click the new Magic Keyboard on the iPad Air. However, the new keyboard is not exclusive for the iPad Air 2025, because all previous models from the iPad Air 2020 are supported.

You can also use the latest Pencil Pro on the iPad Air 2025, but that is also possible on the iPad Air 2024. You don’t have to buy the latest version for that. The Apple Pencil Pro works great, especially if you regularly draw on the tablet.

Furthermore, no significant innovations

The iPad Air 2025 has no real improvements compared to the 2024 version. Switching from the iPad Air 2024 is therefore not worth it. If you have an older iPad Air, switching is a good idea. Whether you opt for an iPad Air 2024 or an iPad Air 2025 does not even matter that much. The difference is also not large in terms of price. You can buy the iPad Air 2024 from € 639, the iPad Air 2025 is available from € 649. Because of this small price difference we recommend the latest version.

Conclusion: iPad Air 2025

Let’s be clear: the iPad Air 2025 is without a doubt an excellent tablet! But that is his predecessor too. The only real improvement is the M3 chip and it actually feels a bit unnecessary. For example, we would rather have seen an improved screen, preferably with Promotion and Face ID. Thanks to the M3 chip, the iPad Air 2025 is without a doubt a little better than its predecessor (that is why it also scores half a point higher), but at the same time there is absolutely no reason to switch.
