The iPhone 11 is powered by the same powerful A13 processor as its bigger brothers. On the back, the iPhone 11 – which is available in no less than 6 colors – also has a stunning dual camera with a Night mode. Unlike the Pro, the iPhone 11 has to do without a third camera lens and OLED screen, but those extras are missing for most people.

iPhone 11 design: still fine

The design of the iPhone 11 is somewhat outdated, although it still looks modern. On the sides, the edges bend away from the iPhone 11, while the latest iPhones are much more angular due to the flat sides. That’s not necessarily a downside. One prefers the angular design, the other prefers that Apple had left it with the old.

We think the iPhone 11 still looks good. The 6.1-inch screen stretches from edge to edge and it doesn’t have a home button with Touch ID. It is also available in all kinds of cheerful shades, although you have to love that. You can choose from green and lavender, but the iPhone 11 is also available in more neutral black and white. With the display of 6.1 inches, the iPhone 11 is larger than the iPhone 12 and 13, which have a screen size of 5.8 inches.

It is also good to know that the iPhone 11 is equipped with an LCD screen, instead of OLED. Such an LCD screen looks slightly less attractive than the OLED of the Pro iPhones and iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, although you have to put the iPhones next to each other to see the difference. There’s no reason not to buy the iPhone 11.

iPhone 11 camera: not the best

When Apple launched the iPhone 11 in 2019, we were very impressed with the camera. It got an ultra-wide-angle lens, with which you can capture much more in the photo – it has a field of view of 120°. This is ideal for landscape photos, for example. Also astonishing was the Night mode, which took photos in the dark by leaps and bounds.

But if we compare the camera of the iPhone 11 with the newer iPhones, we would rather go out with an iPhone 12 or 13. Especially if the lighting conditions are not ideal. Both the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 have lenses with a wider aperture, which makes pictures in the dark look a lot better. In addition, the Night mode on the iPhone 11 cannot be used with the ultra-wide-angle lens and the selfie camera – this is possible with the 12 and 13.

Speed ​​and battery

Despite the fact that the A13 Bionic chip is already more than two years old, the iPhone 11 still feels very smooth and fast. In addition to everyday surfing and WhatsApp, you can use it for graphically intensive tasks, such as playing games. Of course, the iPhone 11 can also handle the latest operating system: iOS 15. We expect that the device will receive software updates for at least three years.

The battery life of the iPhone 11 is also fine. With a 6.1-inch screen, the device is quite large, which is why Apple was able to store a relatively large battery of 3110 mAh in it. If you don’t do crazy things with the iPhone, such as fiddling around with Snapchat filters non-stop, or playing Wordle for hours, you can easily end the day.

Should you buy the iPhone 11 in 2022?

If you have an iPhone 11 in your pocket in 2022, you don’t have to be ashamed. It still looks modern, is powerful, has a beautiful screen and takes good pictures. Still, we don’t think the iPhone 11 is the best choice for most people, simply because there are good alternatives.

Do you want a rock-solid iPhone that is favorably priced? It is wise to wait for the new iPhone SE 2022, which Apple will probably release in March or April. This device is cheaper (it probably costs about 489 euros) and it probably contains an A15 Bionic chip, with 5G support. The iPhone 11 does not support 5G. This makes the iPhone SE cheaper and more future-proof, although you take less good photos with it.

Do you think the iPhone 13 (Pro) is too expensive, but do you want a device with a modern design and stunning camera? Then the iPhone 12 is more interesting than the iPhone 11. The iPhone 12 (available from about 755 euros) is more expensive than the iPhone 11 (available from about 586 euros), but has a better camera and 5G support. In addition, the iPhone 12 has an OLED screen.

The iPhone 11 is no longer the youngest animal, but that also has an advantage: it has become a lot cheaper. Still, the device is not the best choice for most people, because with the iPhone SE, iPhone 12 (Pro) and iPhone 13 (Pro) there are better options. Only buy the iPhone 11 if your new iPhone should not cost more than 600 euros, but you do want a device with a modern design.
