Review Welock Smart Lock with fingerprint scanner and keypad

WELOCK TOUCA51

The Welock Touca51 is a smart door lock that completely replaces the existing cylinder in your door. So you remove the original cylinder and place the Welock Touch in the same place. The lock works with different forms of authorization: pin codes, fingerprints, RFID tags and via an app on your iPhone. With the optional Welock WiFi Box you can even control the lock remotely via the Welock app, which is available for both iOS and Android.

Different ways to open

The Welock Touch replaces the part of the door in which you normally stick the key. This allows you to open the door in several ways:

Fingerprint scanner

The Touca51 Is equipped with a fast fingerprint scanner. As soon as you put your finger on the scanner, your fingerprint will be recognized and unlocks within 0.3 seconds, provided that the print matches. The lock does not immediately operate the cylinder, but ensures that the rotary knob gets grip on the cylinder so that it can be opened. During the test period, the scanner worked without any problems, unless there were water drops on it; Then you first have to dry the scanner. You can add up to 100 fingerprints, more than enough for family members and other people you trust.

KEYPAD for pin codes

You can enter a personal pin code on the coding panel of the lock. For this you can use the numbers 0 to 6. After entering the correct code you can turn the button to open the door. A maximum of 200 unique codes can be added, for example for family, friends or temporary guests. Via the app you can manage these codes, set time slots and view the history, provided that the lock is connected to the internet via the WiFi Box.

RFID tag reader

The Welock Touch is equipped with a built-in RFID reader. With the smart lock comes standard with three RFID tags, electronic keys that you can hang on your keys for example. Hold the tag against the lock to unlock. If you lose a tag, you can easily block it via the app. This offers more safety than traditional keys.

Operation via the Welock App

With the Welock app you can open and close the lock with one tap, as long as you are in the area (via Bluetooth). If you combine the lock with the optional WiFi box, you can operate the lock remotely worldwide, useful if you want to give someone access while you are not at home. The WiFi box is not included as standard; You have to buy this separately.

Installation

The WELOCK TOUCA51 is suitable for doors with a thickness of 30 to 70 mm (including door fittings). The installation is easy for those who are a bit handy. You start by placing three AAA batteries (not included). Securing the battery valve can take some precision due to the small screw. The batteries last about a year and the lock gives a timely warning if they are almost empty. If you are still left with empty batteries, you can temporarily provide the lock with a power bank via the USB port at the front.

After placing the batteries, remove the old cylinder from your current lock by loosening the fixation screw, after which you mount the Welock Touch in the same place. Provide a small play between door and lock, so that everything runs smoothly. The part with the keypad and the fingerprint scanner comes on the outside, the rotary knob on the inside. The button on the inside is secured with an Allen key.

Add admin and standard users

At the first use you register your fingerprint, pin code or RFID tag as a manager. This manager is required to add extra users to the end later. For each type of identification tool you must follow a number of steps, which are clearly described in the included manual. You can also choose to create users via the Welock app, which is usually faster and more user-friendly.

Initially we could not add new fingerprints or NFC tags to the lock via the app. After a firmware update, this problem was solved.

WELOCK SMART LOCK APP

You can then link the lock to the Welock app. Open the app, give the required rights, create an account and scan the QR code on the lock. You can manage multiple locks in the app, add users and RFID tags, change settings and view the full access history. That way you always know who and when the door has opened.

Emergency power supply

The Welock Touca51 is equipped with a handy emergency power supply in case the batteries are completely empty. This prevents you from becoming excluded by an empty batteries.

This emergency power supply is on the front of the lock. When the internal batteries are empty, you can connect a power bank or other external power supply to this USB-C port. This gives the lock temporarily sufficient power to unlock through your usual method, such as fingerprint, pin code or RFID tag. You cannot use the USB port to charge the batteries.

Operating remotely with the WiFi Box V3

The Welock WiFi Box V3 works as a smart hub with which you can operate the Welock door lock remotely, wherever you are. With the Welock app on your iPhone you can open the lock via the WiFi Box, even if you are not at home. This way you can always give visitors access, regardless of your location.

With the box you also have immediate insight into access history and you can easily manage users, create (temporary) pin codes and add RFID tags. It is also possible to consult the lock and unlock history.

When placing the WiFi box, make sure it is within ten meters from the lock for a stable Bluetooth connection. The WiFi Box V3 only supports speech control via Amazon Alexa and (yet) no Google Home or HomeKit.

Conclusion: Welock Touca51
