Review Xtorm Power Shot: this mini power bank is always ready for a boost

The first thing you notice about this power bank is its size. The Xtorm Power Shot (24.99 euros) is so small that you can easily take it with you. It’s about the size of a large lighter, so it fits nicely in your pocket. The average power bank is often a lot larger and also a lot heavier. That is one of the big advantages of this small power bank.

This does mean that this power bank does not have as much ‘power’ as its bigger brothers. The Xtorm Power Shot delivers 5,000 mAh, which is (just) enough to charge a recent standard iPhone. You will be just a little short of fully charging a recent iPhone Pro Max or a Plus device.

However, it does not alter the fact that this charging block always comes in handy. In fact, you don’t even need to carry a cable with you. There is a USB connection incorporated in the block that you can click up.

You can then easily charge your iPhone, but you must of course have a recent iPhone with a USB-C connection. Otherwise you will always need an adapter plug.

You can charge the block itself with a USB-C connection on the side. But funnily enough, this is also possible via the fold-out USB-C port. It takes about 1.5 hours to fully charge it.

There is a button on the block that allows you to check the battery charge. You can recognize the charge by the five white LEDs on the front of the block. A very short USB-C cable to charge the charging pad is included.

Charging fairly quickly, but it does get warm

Charging your iPhone with this Xtorm power bank goes quite smoothly. But it is of course not as fast if you were to charge the smartphone via a socket with a powerful power block. After about 15 minutes you have gained something like 20 percent. Please note that the block becomes quite warm during use.

Fold-out USB-C port (which is not quite in the middle)

The built-in USB-C connection of the Xtorm power bank is not completely in the middle. If you place the iPhone on the table with the block in it, your smartphone will not lie completely flat.

A gentle push on the device then puts considerable pressure on your USB-C port. Of course, you want to prevent that as much as possible. If you put the block upside down in your iPhone, there is nothing wrong. So that is something to take into account.

Not just for iPhone (but beware of big power guzzlers)

Of course, the block is not just for your iPhone. You can also provide some extra power for other devices such as a Nintendo Switch (2), an iPad or even your MacBook. But keep in mind that this capacity does not give you much extra time with large power guzzlers.

Conclusion: review Xtorm Power Shot

This Xtorm power bank is one of those gadget you didn’t know you needed. The compact design and built-in USB-C plug make it ideal for quick emergencies, just what you want when your iPhone runs out of power at the wrong time.

Yet it remains an emergency solution, because with 5,000 mAh you just end up with a standard iPhone. However, don’t expect miracles with larger devices. The overheating and the unfortunate placement of the connector are also minor drawbacks.

But for those who value convenience above all else, this remains a very nice mini power bank that is easy to take with you.
