The electric Rimac Nevera has already set a handful of records and is now adding another one. One that is perhaps even more pointless than all the others. No car can reverse faster than the Rimac Nevera.
Do you think back with nostalgia to the Dafjes that were shown on your TV screen during the reversing races in the 1980s and 1990s? Then the latest record that the Rimac Nevera has managed to achieve might appeal to your nostalgic cravings. The electric supercar can also reverse quite quickly. That might be the understatement of the year.
The Rimac Nevera has already reached a speed of 275.75 km/h while reversing under the watchful eye of representatives from Guinness World Records. This means that the Rimac Nevera has – officially – achieved a speed while reversing that no other car has previously managed to achieve with the transmission in R. As fast as the Nevera is in position D (412 km/h), the Croatian supercar was not in reverse.
“During the development of the Rimac, we discovered that the car could probably also become the fastest car in the world in reverse. We laughed that off. After all, the aerodynamics and cooling were not designed to drive in reverse at that speed. But then we started talking about how fun it would be to try it out,” said Matija Reniç, Rimac’s senior engineer. “Our simulations showed that we could reach a speed of over 150 mph, but we had no idea how stable it would be; we were entering unknown territory.”
The Rimac Nevera has already broken dozens of records. For example, it is the fastest EV on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife and the fastest production car on the Goodwood Festival of Speed hill climb.
