The makers of Roblox aim to bring users together through games and ‘to keep the content central’.
With Roblox’s apps and platform, you can not only play games, but also ‘develop’ games yourself. Roblox offers a few smart tools for this. For example, there is a translation function with which you can publish a game in different languages and there is tooling with which you can make games scalable and a maximum of 800 people per server can participate in the game. Publishers of a game can also earn money. For example, by selling virtual assets in a game (such as clothing for your game character) or offering ‘in-game’ upgrades.
The platform is available through various channels: you can reach it online, but also use the apps that are available for Android and iOS, and also for Xbox One. Roblox of course also has a social component: you can create friend lists and communicate with each other within the platform, even if you are not playing a game. In addition, you can interact in other ways, for example by trading virtual merchandise with other users.
Roblox indicates which assets are available. For example, we came across virtual headsets and clothing. Once purchased goods end up in your Inventory list.
