Option-without-surcharge
In the market for such a new, smoothened Tesla Model S or Tesla Model X, but hate that yoke steering wheel? Don’t panic: the round steering wheel is also possible again.
At first glance, not much has changed with the Tesla Model S and Model X, but the largest Teslas have already been the subject of much discussion. That starts with the (positively) ridiculous performance of the Plaid versions, but is certainly also often about the interior. The hot topic: the ‘yoke steering wheel’, or a rectangular steering wheel instead of a round steering wheel. According to Tesla, this provides a better view of the instruments, but colleague Marc Klaver previously concluded that there are some disadvantages to this concept.
Anyone who finds that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages can now switch free of charge to a ‘normal’, round steering wheel. There was already a suspicion in that direction, but the steering wheel is now actually in the configurator. This applies to both the Model S and the Model X and to both the regular variants and the super-fast Plaid versions. Already ordered a new Model S or X? Even then there is a solution, because for €900, Tesla delivers the steering wheel afterwards.
Do not think that the operation of the car is suddenly very traditional. After all, the version with the round steering wheel no longer has operating levers on the steering column. Windshield wipers, indicators and direction of travel must therefore be operated from the steering wheel, via the screen or by means of an ‘estimation’ of the car itself, but steering at least feels somewhat normal again.
