After the Galaxy Tab S8 series and the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Z Flip 3, it is now the turn of the 2020 Galaxy Tab S7 tablets for the latest One UI 4.1.1 update. That is the software shell that is based on Android 12L.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Android 12L
Some owners of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 and Galaxy Tab S7 Plus are now getting the good news on their Android tablets: the One UI 4.1.1 update is waiting for them. That is the software currently running on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4. The update adds a taskbar to the tablets and multitasking with apps and the split-screen display have been greatly improved. XDA discovered the good news on Reddit.
New, for example, is the taskbar that remains at the bottom of the screen. From there you can easily drag apps on the screen to open them side by side in split-screen. We tested this feature extensively with our review of the new Galaxy Z Fold 4. You can pin apps that you often use together as an app pair so that you can open them next time with a single tap of the taskbar.
Other improvements in One UI 4.1.1
You can discover all the features of Android 12L in this overview. We also list here some more improvements that Samsung has added in its One UI 4.1.1 shell:
- There is a new gesture to open apps in split screen. You swipe from the side to the center with two fingers
- App names can now be displayed in the Edge window
- The Tab S8 recognizes text in images. You can then translate, copy or share it. This doesn’t work for Dutch yet
- You can set a different wallpaper for each contact that is visible in the interface while calling
- There are more stickers and emoji in Samsung Keyboard
- You can rearrange favorites in Samsung Internet favorites by dragging them
- In the new My filesapp, the search function can also search the contents of files. Now include a phone number in one of your text documents
- you can in My files also filter and sort files based on your search results
How to install the update
The update should normally be visible in the notification bar once you get it, but you can also search manually. This can be done via: Settings -> Software Update -> Download and Install. Samsung is rolling out the update in phases, which means that it may take a few days before you can also install the update.
More Samsung updates
Samsung is currently also updating its Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 with the One UI 4.1.1 update and the company plans to equip its other foldable smartphones with this software in the near future, up to and including the first Galaxy Fold.
Samsung is also updating the Galaxy Watch 4. He gets the Wear OS 3.5 update, or software that appeared with the Galaxy Watch 5 series.
