Receive a nice photo or video in WhatsApp that is worth keeping? Save it easily.
Save photo to smartphone
If you receive a nice photo or video via WhatsApp, you probably also want to save it on the phone. Fortunately that’s how it was done.
Save photo/video (iPhone)
- Open WhatsApp.
- Tap the tab chats.
- Tap the name of the contact or group that contains the photo/video.
- In the chat conversation, tap the photo/video. If it was sent a while ago, do the following:
- Tap the name of the contact or group at the top.
- Tap on Media, links and docs > Media.
- Tap the photo/video you want to save.
- Tap the icon of a square with arrow in the bottom left
. - Tap on Keep.
Save photo/video (Android phone)
On Android phones, the exchanged photos and videos in WhatsApp are automatically saved in the Gallery app. If not, enable the option as follows:
- Open WhatsApp.
- Tap the three dots icon at the top right.
- Tap on Institutions.
- Tap on Data and storage usage.
- Under ‘Automatically download media’, tap your choice. For example, choose When connected to Wi-Fi to save the received videos and photos only when you are connected to Wi-Fi.
- Are there no check marks in front of the ‘Pictures’ and ‘Videos’ options? Then tap Pictures and Videos.
- Tap on OK.
