We have found out what the most popular films and series are on Apple TV+ in recent years and have listed these tips for you.
Apple TV+: these films and series are worth it
The offering of Apple TV+ is rather on the meager side compared to that of, for example, Netflix. Still, Apple has been able to bring in a number of gems over the past four years.
We used the Apple TV+ YouTube channel and IMDB score to determine which movies were the most watched and therefore worth watching on Apple TV+.
2019: ‘See’
One of our recommendations for Apple TV+ is ‘See’, a fantasy drama starring Jason Momoa. It is one of the audience favorites on the Apple TV+ YouTube channel. The trailer is the most viewed to date with 37 million hits. 157,000 users have given the trailer a like. ‘See’ is therefore first on our list.
This is followed by ‘For all Mankind’, ‘Servant’ and ‘Truth be Told’ in terms of popularity. Strangely enough, ‘For all Mankind’ is rated higher on IMDB with 8.1 points than ‘See’ with 7.6 points. ‘The Morning Show’ only appears in twelfth place on our list.
2020: ‘Tehran’
The political thriller ‘Tehran’ surpassed the comedy ‘Ted Lasso’ on Apple TV+ during its premiere in 2020. The Israeli drama about Mossad agent Tamar in central Tehran has 32 million views with 44,000 likes. ‘Ted Lasso’ has 19 million views with 49,000 likes. In this case, responses have not yet been included in the analysis; Apple only added that feature sometime in 2023.
In the following places we find ‘Defending Jacob’, a family drama with Chris Evans. And the first season of ‘Foundation’, Isaac Asimov’s sci-fi epic, which was long considered unfilmable.
2021: ‘Foundation’
‘Foundation’ is also one of our tips on Apple TV+ and the big winner of 2021. The trailer appeared in 2020, the series itself in 2021. The film ‘CODA’ won an Oscar and furthermore ‘Finch’ and ‘Cherry’ are very popular.
2022: ‘Luck’
In 2022, ‘Severance’ was one of the tips on Apple TV+, but the audience favorite is an animated film co-directed by John Lasseter (formerly of Pixar): the official trailer for ‘Luck’ has been viewed 17 million times.
Next on the list of our tips for Apple TV+ is ‘Black Bird’, followed by a documentary about Selena Gomez and in fourth place ‘Severance’. This ranking does not correspond to the rating on IMDB, where ‘Severance’ gets 8.7 points, ‘Black Bird’ 8.1 points, ‘Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me’ 7.4 points and ‘Luck’ only 6, 4 points.
2023: ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’
‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ reached a total of 24 million views and should of course not be missing from this list of Apple TV+ tips (128,000 likes and almost 4,000 comments). Scorsese’s ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ comes next, followed by the war drama ‘Masters of the Air’. Two more films from Apple TV+ follow: ‘Ghosted’ and ‘Tetris’. ‘Napoleon’ is generally seen as a flop. The biopic about the French emperor starring Joaquin Phoenix only reached 21st place in our evaluation.
Apple TV+ conclusion
Apple’s flair for good movies has brought us a number of award-winning and popular films in recent years. What has characterized Apple TV+ over the past four years are mainly very good science fiction series. Furthermore, each series, whether ‘Severance’ or ‘Silo’, has its own aesthetic that is instantly recognizable.
The first videos to appear on Apple’s channel in 2024 give a taste of what Apple TV+ can still deliver: There’s ‘Constellation’, another sci-fi drama that plays with the space-time continuum and the pitfalls of quantum mechanics. A kind of ‘Interstellar’ with a female protagonist.
