The chance that you now have a whole life in your WhatsApp conversations is quite high. The app has been immensely popular for a number of years now and is the means of communication for many. So it might be nice to keep things safe.
Fortunately, WhatsApp gives you several options to protect your messages. Besides the fact that you can turn on two-factor authentication, it is also possible to protect everything with your face or fingerprint. In this article, Mark explains exactly how to do that.
Securing WhatsApp with your face
It is nice that WhatsApp gives you various options to protect your sometimes precious messages. Of course I can’t stress enough Two-step verification turn on. You will be asked for your code every now and then, but at least you protect yourself the moment someone else tries to log in with your number. Go to Settings -> Account -> Two-step verification and enable the functionality.
In addition to activating this protection, you can also choose to protect WhatsApp with your face. Provided you use this security on your smartphone or that it is available at all. To do this, follow the next steps:
- Open WhatsApp
- Select Settings
- Go to Account
- Choose Privacy
- At the bottom is the option Screensaver
- Then put Ask for Face ID at

There is no difference between Android and iOS in the steps, but there is in terms of choices. When you have enabled the option, it is possible to choose when the application is locked. By default this is set to Straight away, but there is also the option to choose 1 minute or 30 minutes. People with an iOS device will also have the option for 1 hour.
Fingerprint instead of face
If you have an older iPhone model without Face ID or if you use the fingerprint scanner on your Android smartphone, you’re in the right place. WhatsApp gives you the option to also opt for this lock. Follow the same steps as above, but choose Touch ID or the fingerprint scanner.
