Prices of second-hand iPhones will remain fairly stable until a new model is announced. This has to do with a number of factors, which you as a provider can respond to smartly.
- Not everyone needs the latest iPhone, and there are those who aren’t too concerned about the announcement. For this group of buyers it is not so important that a new model arrives; they buy when they need a new device.
- As soon as the new iPhones are announced, the market will be flooded with pre-owned iPhones from the previous generation. You will then have to deal with a large group of competitors who also want to sell their iPhone for the best price. So make sure you get there early.
- After the announcement of a new iPhone, the previous model is suddenly less popular. Often Apple also lowers the price of these earlier models, so that your device yields less. Timing is everything!
All this ensures that the price of second-hand iPhone remains fairly stable, until the moment Apple announces a new model. - Additional accessories: If you supply a protective cover, dock or car charger with the iPhone, you have an advantage over other sellers who only sell a separate iPhone.
- Original box and receipt: Some buyers value that the iPhone is still in its original box and that it comes with an original receipt, so that they can be sure that the iPhone was bought fairly somewhere (and it may also come with a warranty). Original stuff speeds up the sale of your iPhone.
Keep in mind that devices that are no longer officially supported by Apple are no longer worth that much. For example, the iPhone 6 can no longer get updates to iOS 13, so people prefer a newer model. But don’t let that discourage you. The device still works with popular apps and there are still plenty of interested buyers to find who do not need the latest of the latest at all. You just have to take into account that the price you get is no longer that high.

In the weeks before a new iPhone comes on the market, it is best to sell your current device. That does bring uncertainties. You do not always know how quickly the new model will be available and it is often not yet definite which functions will be included. You can often make a good estimate of whether the new device suits you on the basis of leaked photos and other information. You will also have to take into account that you may be without an iPhone for a few weeks. You can compensate for this by temporarily using an old one.
Because Apple often applies a consistent pricing policy, it is already possible to estimate how much the new iPhone will cost you in advance. A broken screen ensures that you get less. The devices are checked, cleaned and, if necessary, fitted with new parts. If your device is completely broken, you can recycle your iPhone so that it is processed in a responsible manner. This can be done through Apple, for example, but also through most stores where you can buy iPhones.
