Send images from your Mac to the Apple TV in 3 steps

Want to show a presentation of your Mac via Apple TV or watch the possibilities for the coming summer vacation together in the living room? In this article, we will explain how to display the Mac screen on the Apple TV.

From Mac to Apple TV

On the Apple TV you can find a number of very useful apps with which you can play videos on your television, such as Plex and Netflix. But if you just want to show what you see on the Mac, you can simply send those images to your television via Apple TV. This is very easy and all you need is suitable devices.

That is how it works

Games, videos, presentations or FaceTime – these are a few examples of things that you can conjure up on a big screen with this tip. And everything just works with AirPlay, the feature that comes pre-installed on OS X. By following the steps below, you can project the image from your Mac on the Apple TV.

  1. Turn on the Apple TV;
  2. On the Mac, prepare what you want to show, then click on the AirPlay icon (top right in the menu bar of the Mac);
  3. Select ‘Apple TV’ in the menu and the images will be broadcast.

By default, the television takes the resolution of your Mac (Book). This can cause the image to be blown up. If you want to fix that, click the AirPlay icon on the Mac during playback. There are now a number of options. AirPlay Display Mirroring keeps the resolution the same. If you want to make it fit on your Mac, choose ‘Synchronous display Built-in display’. Finally, you have the option of using the television as a separate screen.

Hiccups

Do you suffer from a faltering connection? Then check that there are no devices in the house that can cause interference with your WiFi network. For example, try changing your Wi-Fi channel and keep your Apple TV away from heavy electronic devices.
