With iOS 26, something will change on your iPhone in the telephone app. Calling then becomes slightly different. These are the most important innovations.
Calling will be otherwise in iOS 26: This will change on your iPhone
With iOS 26, Apple is going to tinker a lot on the telephone app on your iPhone. There are some improvements under the hood, but the appearance is also (a little bit) on the shovel. We tell you what the most important changes are in the phone app from iOS 26!
New appearance
The first to notice is the new interface. With iOS 26, the beam is now of glass and you only have the options ‘call’, ‘contacts’ and ‘tests’. On the far right you still have the search function. The buttons for ‘favorites’ and ‘voicemail’ have disappeared.

You can now find these buttons by tapping the menu button at the top right. There you now have the choice of ‘calling’, ‘missed’ and ‘voicemail’.
In this menu you also have the option to choose between the standard appearance ‘classic’ or a new layout called ‘merged’. With this option your favorite contacts will be at the top. All recent calls will appear below. Do you want to call someone in the recent list? Then you have to tap the phone on the right.

Screen calls
When you have the iPhone in English, you can now also have unknown calls screened. These callers are then first asked for their name and the reason why they call. Did they pass it once? Then the phone really passes and you see their reaction as text on your screen. For the time being this function is not yet available in Dutch.
Small changes for the telephone app in iOS 26
The telephone app is now also available on the iPad and the Mac. From now on you can also see calls as notifications on your appletV and if you use CarPlay, the notifications are displayed smaller.
