Do you want to start a new conversation, but the number is not in your contacts? This feature allows you to send a message on WhatsApp, without saving the contact!
Send messages without contact on WhatsApp
Before you can send a message to a new number on WhatsApp, you must first add this number to your contacts. Not always handy, because you don’t want all numbers directly in your contacts. Via a detour it is now possible to send a message to a number, without having saved that number on your iPhone.

It is therefore not yet possible in WhatsApp itself to send a message without having saved the contact. In WhatsApp, it is also possible to send a message to an unknown number, if you have a shared group with that number. You can then tap the number and start a chat without saving the contact first. This way you never have to save contacts again
Sending a message on WhatsApp without saving a contact is very easy. The function has not (yet) been incorporated into WhatsApp itself, so you have to go to a separate website to send a message. It goes like this:
- Select the phone number you want to message;
- Put the number behind this link: https://wa.me/;
- Go to the page and click on ‘Proceed to chat’.
Be careful if you want to send a message to a foreign number on WhatsApp, you have to put the country code for the number in the link. For example, the country code for Germany is 49, so the link would look like this: https://wa.me/49. Then enter the rest of the number so you can message the number on WhatsApp without having to save it to your contacts.
It is unclear whether the feature will come to WhatsApp
It is not yet clear whether WhatsApp plans to introduce the feature in the app itself. So for now it is at least possible to send a message on WhatsApp, without saving the contact. That’s nice, because that way there won’t be all unknown numbers in your contact list.
