Would you like to send an e-mail newsletter to (un)known acquaintances as a (hobby) writer, but are you looking forward to the execution? The Revue website allows you to easily send newsletters. Free and for nothing. We help you create an account and send your first newsletter.
Revue is originally a Dutch service, which was taken over by Twitter in January 2021. Since then, Revue has been an independent service within Twitter, with the same team and the same (English) user experience. Thanks to the extra support from Twitter, the service often adds new functions, according to the experience of the author of this article.
create an account
Time to get started with Revue too. You create an account via the website www.getrevue.co†Without ‘m’, indeed, because the .com version leads to a dubious website. It is therefore advisable to bookmark the right website so that you are on the right track with one click.
On the website you click on the big orange Start a newsletter for free-knob. Then choose Sign up with email instead and enter your own email address and password. Your e-mail address is only for your account and not the e-mail address that the recipients of your newsletter see. By the way, choose a strong password that you only use for Revue, as the service does not support two-factor authentication for increased security at the time of writing.
Then you choose your username, which is the name people see after getrevue.co/profile/. We recommend that you choose a clear name. For example, the author of this article chose ‘news from Castricum’, because he sends a newsletter about the municipality of Castricum. Bee Newsletter title choose the name of your newsletter, in this case ‘News from Castricum’. Finally, select Netherlands Bee Country of residence and press Continueâ€
Now open your e-mail account, select the e-mail from Revue and confirm your account by clicking the orange button in the e-mail Confirm my email address to click. You are now in your Revue account, where you Update profile image upload a photo of yourself or your logo. Bee your name enter your name, assuming you want to share it with your readers. You save the changes via the Save-knob.
A nice welcome text is a good start
Settings
We’ll start with Revue’s settings, all of which are free to use. You can use it to personalize your e-mail newsletter, among other things. Open the settings menu by clicking on your profile picture at the top right and Account settings to choose.
For example, adjust which e-mail address you want to receive responses to your newsletter and scroll down until you see the option Issues description sees. Here you can enter a description, which will be shown on your profile page and at the bottom of your newsletter. We recommend that you describe your newsletter briefly and concisely, to convince people to sign up.
The next option, Welcome text, is also convenient to adjust. This is the text a new subscriber will see immediately after signing up. A nice welcome text is a good start. At the very bottom you have the option to add your own website and social media channels. These will then be displayed on your getrevue.co page.
When the settings are what you want, click Save to save the changes. On the other settings pages you will find more functions, including those related to the design of your newsletter. If you already have a newsletter and have exported the subscribers to a data file, import them by clicking at the very top of the screen Subscribers to click. Of Add subscribers and then Import from Mailchimp or Import from file add your subscribers.
Create newsletter
Time to create your first newsletter. click on Create and you will see the title, author and at the bottom four buttons. At the very top you fill in the Subject– Enter your title, which will be shown as the subject of your e-mail.
Below that you write an intro text, and below the subtle gray line the subject or subjects of your newsletter. You can add a headline via the Sectionbutton, followed by a text block via the button text†You can also add a link to highlight a website. You do this via the Link-knob. The Mediabutton lets you see an image (Image†Video or Tweet to add.
Once you’ve placed the different blocks, you can move them around by hovering your mouse over the block in question. You will then see an arrow icon that allows you to move the block up or down. To remove the block, click on the three arrows and then on Remove itemâ€
Because you write your newsletter via a website, you can write on any device and continue on another (logged in) device. The disadvantage: without internet or if Revue has a malfunction, you cannot continue.
Schedule and send
When your newsletter is ready, it’s time to schedule and send it. You do this from the screen on which you create your newsletter. At the bottom of the screen you see two buttons: preview and Schedule issue†click on preview and then Show online preview to preview your newsletter in your browser.
Are you curious about what the newsletter looks like as an e-mail? Then choose Send a previewenter your own email address and press Send preview†You can now read the email in your email service.
Satisfied? Then click on the previous screen Schedule issue and you will be given the choice to send the newsletter now (send it now) or to schedule (send it later†Select the date and time, press at the bottom schedule and at the specified time the e-mail pops neatly in the mailbox of the subscribers.
After sending you can click on the tab Issues on the button Analytics click to view reader statistics per newsletter.
Paid Newsletters
Those who do not see sending a newsletter purely as a hobby, but also want to earn money from it, have several options. Revue offers you the option to send your newsletter only to paying subscribers. In that case, five percent of the income goes to Revue, the rest is for you. The catch: you have to link your credit card once via a Stripe account and readers can only pay by linking their credit card.
Because not all Dutch people have a credit card, we approach it differently ourselves. We place a link to a Tikkie payment request in every free newsletter. Readers decide for themselves whether they want to make a donation. Additional benefits are that neither you nor the reader need a credit card and that all the income is yours. Good luck with your newsletter!
