Private reply to a message
In a group conversation in WhatsApp, there are several people in one chat conversation. When someone sends a message, all participants see it. But sometimes it is useful to send someone a private message after reading a message, so that not everyone is reading along. This can be done directly from the group conversation. That again saves time.
Send private message on Android device
This works as follows on an Android device:
- Tap the app whatsapp.
- Tap the tab chats and open the group chat.
- Tap a message from the person you want to private message and hold the screen until a menu bar appears at the top.
- Tap the three dots icon.
- Tap on Reply privately.
- The screen changes to a chat message between just you and the person in question. Type a message and tap the paper airplane icon.
The message was only sent to the desired person.
Send private message on iPhone
This is how it works on an iPhone:
- Tap the app whatsapp.
- Tap the tab chats and open the group chat.
- Tap a message from the person you want to private message and hold the screen until a menu bar appears.
- Tap on More to show the other options of the menu.
- Tap on Private answers.
- The screen changes to a chat message between just you and the person in question. Type a message and tap the paper airplane icon.
The message was only sent to the desired person.
Note: between the options in the menu is also the option ‘Answer’. This is where you reply to that specific message in the group conversation. This answer simply appears in the group conversation and is visible to everyone. So make sure that another window really opens for a private message.
