Get started right away and transfer data from your old iPhone or iPad

It’s easier than ever to set up your new iPad or iPhone without any hassle. With the ‘Get Started’ option, you can easily and quickly transfer data from your old iPhone or iPad to your new one.

When you start using a new iPhone or iPad, you always have to manually set up your iCloud, passwords, log in to the Wi-Fi network, etc. Thanks to the transfer function, you can configure your new iPhone or iPad with an old one and automatically transfer the data. Tap ‘Unlock to continue’ on this notification or immediately select ‘Continue’. Then follow the steps on your old iPhone or iPad to start the setup. After a few steps, the old iDevice will display a moving 3D code that you need to scan with your new iPhone or iPad. Then follow the steps to start and complete the transfer.

These steps will allow you to immediately transfer your settings, passwords, and data without having to manually select or enter them. You can also choose to restore a backup to your new iPhone or iPad.

In addition, since iOS 12.4 you can also transfer iPad or iPhone data directly from your old device without the intervention of (iCloud) backup. When the configuration is complete, the apps are downloaded from the App Store and you can use the device.

Restore old device

Once the transfer and setup is complete, you can restore your old device by erasing all of its data. iOS or iPadOS will prompt you to do this. If you choose to erase your iPhone, you will be signed out of your Apple ID and your personal data will be deleted. This makes it safe to trade in, sell, or give away your iPhone.

To do this, tap ‘Continue’ or ‘Not now’ if you want to perform the restore later. You may want to activate certain apps on your new device first using your old iPhone or iPad, such as the Bank app or DigiD. You can then easily start the erase later via the Settings app.
