With the recently unveiled BMW XM Concept foreshadowing a rather remarkable future model, we see yet another example of a new trend. Designs are becoming more exuberant and extreme. We have listed seven remarkable newcomers to car land for you.
Shocking with design seems to be a trend in the automotive world. Certainly for us Europeans it is sometimes difficult to swallow what is happening in the field of design. All these remarkable designs also stem from the increasing importance of a market like China. What is considered beautiful there can be experienced differently here. Electrification also plays a role, because the cars will become less and less distinctive in terms of character. We’ve put together seven designs for the near future so you can prepare for what you’ll encounter on the road in just a few years.
1. Tesla Cyber Truck
It will not get more extreme than the Tesla Cybertruck in the coming years. Back in 2019, the American electric car manufacturer unveiled the colossus that most resembles a cross between a Stealth bomber and a pickup; it is also the latter. With its exoskeleton that acts like armor and bizarre performance, the Cybertruck is going to cause quite a stir. It remains to be seen whether it will go into production in 2022.
2. BMW XM Concept
The BMW XM is still a concept, but not much will change about this new model from BMW M. Kidneys consisting of openings in which an A-segmentertje seems to be able to disappear, many angular lines and a monstrous power of 750 hp thanks to plug-in hybrid technology. Everything is thick about the XM.
3. Kia EV9 Concept
Kia has already put a boldly styled electric car in the showroom with the EV6, but with the EV9 they may go a step further in 2023. At least if not too much is changed on the EV9 Concept. That will be an electric seven-seater with a rather chunky appearance. A wattle of an SUV.
4.Hyundai Ioniq 7
Kia calls the new electric line EV followed by a number, sister brand Hyundai uses Ioniq followed by a number. The Ioniq 5 is already here, an Ioniq 6 is coming, an elegant low EV. This is followed by the Ioniq 7, a large electric SUV with huge LED bars for lighting. The Seven concept indicates in which direction we should think, but also for this remarkable creation, we still have some time to get used to it. The production version will not be released until 2024.
5. Genesis GV60
We stay in the Korean corner for a while. Genesis, the premium brand of the Hyundai Motor Company, has already presented a new model line in other European countries, the G70 and GV70 and the G80 and GV80, as well as an S-class sedan, the G90. But the GV60 may be interesting for the Netherlands, which is a fully electric crossover that will certainly stand out.
6. Canoo Lifestyle Vehicle
The American Canoo already presented the electric MPV-like with the name Lifestyle Vehicle in 2019. A car that can only be driven by subscription. There was even a courtship with Nedcar in Born to make the car there, as an extra on top of the production in the US. The Canoo Lifestyle Vehicle should be ready for launch by the end of 2022.
7. Xpeng P7
In 2022 you will see this Xpeng 7 on the Dutch roads. Xpeng is one of the many new Chinese brands trying their luck in the electric car market. There is even a version with butterfly doors of the P7, which, like other models from Xpeng, is already available in Norway.
