Several months waiting time for driving test in major cities

The CBR is working hard to eliminate waiting times for driving and theory tests, but getting a car license still requires a little more patience than usual. The waiting time is longest in the major cities.

Due to the various lockdowns and the corona measures, there were considerable waiting times at the Central Bureau for Driving Skills (CBR) last year. The CBR had to move almost 700,000 exams due to the lockdowns. Although catching up has been made, the new measures and the return of keeping one and a half meters away are again causing delays. Planning a theory or practical exam currently requires a little more patience. Anyone planning a theory exam in Utrecht now has to wait more than four months. The waiting time for a practical exam in Utrecht is three months.

“In many places, eliminating the backlog caused by the lockdown is much better, but Utrecht and the other three major cities are lagging behind. The fact that we have to maintain the one and a half meters in exam rooms again ensures that fewer people can take the exam at the same time.” says spokesperson Nathalie Dingeldein to the AD. However, the CBR currently has a flexible policy when it comes to planning the exams. Anyone who has had a theory exam recorded may move it up to five times. Taking an exam at another place in the country is also allowed.
