If you like listening to music or watching a movie with headphones, it might be more fun with two people. That’s why you can use the ‘share audio’ function. This makes it possible to connect multiple AirPods and supporting headphones to one and the same iPhone, iPad or Apple TV.
Unfortunately, not all wireless earphones or headphones are supported. For example, you can only share the audio with AirPods, Beats headphones and earphones with an Apple H1, W1 chip or newer. The device must also be suitable for sharing the audio.
Share audio via iPhone or iPad
- Connect one pair of AirPods or supporting headphones
- Open the control panel
- In the music panel, tap the AirPods, headphones or triangle with waves symbol
- Under ‘Headphones’, select ‘Share audio’
- Now turn on the second pair of AirPods, headphones or earphones
- Tap Share Audio
- Follow the steps on the screen
Once the pairing is complete, you can both listen to the same music or watch a video. The audio is sent to both headphones without delay. Please note, you can connect a maximum of two headphones via audio sharing.
In addition to the music panel in the control panel, you can also share the audio via the Music application itself. Play a song, tap the mini player at the bottom to activate the full-page view. Then tap the paired headphones (triangle with waves) to start audio sharing according to the steps above.
Share audio via an Apple TV
It is also possible to share the audio of films, series and music with AirPods and headphones via the Apple TV. Before you can do this, make sure the AirPods or headphones have previously been connected to the Apple TV via Settings â–¸ Remotes & Devices â–¸ Bluetooth. If this is the case, you can use the steps below to share the audio:
- Connect one pair of AirPods or supporting headphones
- Open Control Center on Apple TV by pressing and holding the TV button
- Select the AirPods or headphones tab
- Choose ‘Share audio’
- Follow the on-screen instructions to pair the second headset
To connect the headphones to share the audio, simply hold them close to the Apple TV and select them. In addition, you can also tap the notifications on the iPhone or iPad to establish the connection.
