Share subscriptions with others

Do you like to listen to music, but so do others in your family? Then family subscriptions of streaming services are more than worth considering.

More and more services, such as Spotify (for music) and Netflix (for films), offer the option of taking out a subscription together with several people. With partial subscriptions you pay a little more per month, but less than if, for example, your daughter, grandson and yourself each take a separate subscription. The more people who participate, the lower your own costs.

In case of Spotify you pay 15 euros per month (price April 2021), while a ‘normal’ subscription costs ten euros. Six people can listen to unlimited music on a computer, tablet or smartphone with the family subscription. Movie lovers can go to the streaming service Netflix. For about 14 euros per month (price April 2021), you can watch unlimited movies and series on four devices at the same time. Handy if, for example, you like to watch a movie via the smart TV, while your partner is discovering a series on the tablet in another room. An alternative to Netflix is Video country. This allows you to enjoy unlimited mainly Dutch films and series.

With each streaming service, one person remains responsible for the invoice. Make good agreements about payment. You can of course also choose to take Spotify yourself, for example, and have someone else pay for the Netflix subscription.

So it’s worth checking out if your favorite streaming service has family or sharing options. New features are added regularly. For example, it is already possible to share apps, games, movies and books with five family members via the Google Play Store-family library.

Anyone who reads the fine print knows that the services may not be shared with, for example, neighbors or friends. Only people within the family are officially covered by the family bundles.
