Share your location temporarily, permanently or once via the Messages app

Using iMessage apps, you can quickly use certain parts of an application in the Messages app for iPhone and iPad. Since iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, it is possible to share your location with other users once, useful if you are abroad or have an appointment somewhere.

You can easily access the iMessage apps by tapping the plus button next to the text field. You will immediately see an overview of the most used apps or the best suggestions. This gives you access to stickers, Memoji, photos and other applications.

All iMessage apps in one place

  • Open the Messages app on your iPhone or iPad
  • Go to a conversation
  • Tap the plus button next to the text field

You can immediately consult the most used iMessage apps. You can then immediately see what you send most. This can be photos or audio messages, but also your location. And if you swipe up, you will see the rest of your iMessage apps.

Share location once

Under the plus button is also a handy method to share your own location or request the location of someone else. This works as follows:

  • Open the Messages app on your iPhone or iPad
  • Go to a conversation
  • Tap the plus button next to the text field
  • Select ‘Locations’
  • Tap the pin at the top left
  • Select ‘Send pin’
  • Tap the send button
Share your location temporarily, permanently or once via the Messages app

You share the location once and it will not be updated automatically. By tapping on the map, the recipient can start a route. It is useful if you have already arrived at a place and the other person needs to navigate to you.

Share location for longer periods

Want to share your location for a longer period of time? You can also do this directly from the Messages app. Tap the plus button next to the text field and select location. Instead of the pin symbol, tap the compass rose (arrow) and select ‘Share’. Then select a desired period. Then send your location and the recipient can view your location on the map in the Messages app or via the Find My app during this period.
