Sharing location in Google Maps: this is how you do it in a few steps

You can share your real-time location with someone in Google Maps. For example, you can let your friends know when you are exactly in town to go to the pub or catch a movie.

Share location in Maps

You can share everything about your real-time location, such as your estimated time of arrival, your route and of course your exact location. You can share this with a contact person, but also via a link in an app such as WhatsApp, Messenger or Google Chat. The last option is used if you want to send your location to someone who doesn’t have a Google account. Sharing with a WhatsApp or Telegram call is also possible in this way. Share with someone who has a Google account

  1. Add his or her Gmail address to you Google Contactsif you haven’t already done this
  2. Open the Google Maps app on your Android phone or tablet
  3. Tap your profile picture and then Share locationshare with someone
  4. Select the contact and tap Parts
  5. Choose how long you want to share your location and tap again Parts

You can enter a specific time in step 5 or choose to switch off yourself. For the last option, follow steps 1 and 2 and tap the profile of the person you no longer want to share your location with. Then tap that Stop

Share with someone who doesn’t have a Google account

  1. Open the Google Maps app on your Android phone or tablet
  2. Tap your profile picture and then Share locationshare with someone
  3. To copy the “Share location” link, tap Copy to clipboard
  4. Paste the link in a message in your email, SMS or any other messaging app and send the message

People who have this link can view your real-time location for as long as you want, up to 72 hours.
