Sharing motorhomes and caravans is gaining in popularity

An important milestone for the Dutch motorhome sharing platform Camptoo: the company recently reached its half-millionth overnight stay. The corona crisis seems to have helped in this regard.

Would you like to go on a motorhome holiday, but do you not have the means to purchase a usually quite expensive motorhome? The Dutch motorhome sharing platform Camptoo responded to this need and connects owners of caravans and motorhomes to holidaymakers. Camptoo has now reached the milestone of 500,000 overnight stays and the company is growing significantly, with the acquisition of the Danish competitor Out2Camp as the latest achievement. Founder Martijn Peeters thinks that the corona crisis has helped a lot in the growth of his company. “With all the color codes and closed borders, the motorhome was suddenly the ideal means of getting out safely and self-sufficiently,” he says. “The last two seasons it really rained bookings.”

The fact that motorhomes and caravans are more popular than ever is mainly apparent from the sales figures. This year, motorhome sales seem to be heading for a new record: up to and including July, nearly 9,000 new caravans and motorhomes were sold in the Netherlands. The market for used caravans and motorhomes also seems to be flourishing. More than 2,500 camping vehicles in the Netherlands and 4,000 worldwide are now affiliated with Camptoo. The company from The Hague has already put another dot on the horizon: 750,000 overnight stays is the new goal to break.
